Description

This peculiar pendant cross is remarkable for its exquisite details. The arms of the cross have crescent-shaped cuts. An oval corund stone is set in the centre. Single bell-shaped otnaments hang on the horizontal arms of the cross, this imparts the pendant specific charm.
The original piece, called “Processional cross”, in the HMA collection was made in Aparan in the 11th – 12th centuries. The base of the cross has a protuberance for a handle. A procession proceeded, accompanied by the jingling of the bells hanging on the cross-arms.
